SRSG in Somalia Mr. James Swan and Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations in Africa Mss.Martha Ama .pobee. met today with senior HRDs from the South West Human Rights Defenders Network (SWHRDN) led by Mr. Mohamud Sheikh Abdi and Managements of SWHRDN at UN Compound in Baidoa airport.
The meeting discussed Ellections Human rights situation and how to Secure the 30 quota of Women’s political Participation in SWS also promotion of advocacy for human rights in Somalia as well as possibilities of UN support in this regard.
The meeting discussed the importance of upholding and improvement of the upcoming elections and human rights situation during elections in Somalia (a country ravaged by long standing armed conflict and extremist insurgency, where human rights violations occurance is sustained by prevalent impunity)
SWHRDN will continue priming and protecting human rights in somali though advocacy and upholding justice and the rule of law and ensuring the 30 % of women quota and the protection of HRDs.
SWHRDN is building strong relationship with Somalia’s domestic and international stakeholders and partners in order to have a free and fair elections and improve the human rights situation of the country.
